Dott.ssa MARIA CRISTINA GAMBI

Nata ad Arezzo il 24 febbraio 1954.

Percorso di studi e professionale

1977: Conseguimento della laurea in Scienze Biologiche presso l’Università di Siena (110/110 e lode).

1977-1979: Biennio di tirocinio come allieva laureata interna presso l’Istituto di Anatomia Comparata (Laboratorio di Idrobiologia) dell’Università di Siena.

1980-1982: Socio della Cooperativa di Biologia Marina, Idrobiologia ed Acquacoltura “CoIPA” (Roma).

1983-1992: Ricercatrice Stazione Zoologica “Anton Dohrn” di Napoli presso il Laboratorio di Ecologia del Benthos con sede a Villa Dohrn, Ischia.

1986-1986. Fullbright post-doc fellowhsip presso la School of Oceanography dell’Università di Washington (WA, USA) e Friday Harbor Laboratories.

Primo ricercatore Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn di Napoli.
Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale per Ecologia (Professore Ordinario) e Zoologia (Professore Associato).

Interessi di ricerca

Maria Cristina Gambi è 1° ricercatore presso la Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn di Napoli (sede di Villa Dohrn, Ischia), si occupa da oltre 30 anni dei seguenti argomenti di ricerca:

Tassonomia, sistematica, biologia evolutiva ed ecologia dei policheti con particulare riguardo ad alcune famiglie e specie (Eunicidae, Polynoidae, Sabelllidae).

Ecologia dei sistemi vegetati costieri, interazioni piante/animali. Struttura di comunità lungo gradienti di fattori ambientali.

Effetto del Climate Change sul biota bentonico: ocean cidification, riscaldamento e specie aliene.

Ecologia del benthos Antartico.

Highlights scientifici

Nell’ambito delle sue ricerche ha descritto 16 specie di policheti nuove per la scienza; descirtto una nuova e peculiare guild di detritivori nel sistema a Posidonia oceanica del Mediterraneo e Thalassia testudinum nei Caraibi; rilevato e studiato per la prima volta l’effetto delle heat-waves nel Golfo di Napoli e l’effetto dei gradienti di acidificazione delle acque nel biota bentonico in sistemi sommersi di emissione di CO2; identificato specie chiave di policheti come possibili modeli per lo studio del climate change; ha descritto comunità bentoniche peculiari nei fondali costieri di Baia Terra Nova (Antartide). E’ autrice di oltre 90 lavori scientifici ISI (indice h= 21; ISI data-set). Nel complesso ha all’attivo 215 pubblicazioni, con 3989 citazioni ed un indice h = 32 (Google Scholar, novembre 2014).

Attività di campagna

Nell’ambito dei programmi di ricerca svolti ha partecipato in numerose occasioni alle operazioni di campagna e prelievo a mare. Particolarmente degne di nota sono le seguenti:

5 campagne in Antartide nell’ambito del programma Italiano (PNRA, 1989, 1995) e dei programmi Tedesco (1996, 1998) e Spagnolo (Bentart 2006), ed una campgan nello stretto di Magellano (1995)

Crociera oceanografica a bordo della R/V Atlantis (AT 15-68, 2010) con il batiscafo da ricerca Alvin sui cold seeps degli Oregon Hydrate Ridge (USA).

Svolge dal 1981 intensa attività di immersione scientifica; è in possesso di brevetti di immersione subacquea con autorespiratore (A.R.A.): PADI Rescue Diver (1995), NITROX (NAUI, 1999); brevetto Advanced European Scientific Diver (AESD) (2012).

Ha supervisionato 6 PhD ed uno (Open University) è attualmente in corso, e 20 tesi di laurea magistrale e specialistica. Ha fatto parte di commissioni di tesi di dottorato Italiane nelle Università di Roma “La Sapienza” e Siena, e nei jury di PhD internazionali in Francia, Belgio, Spagna e Regno Unito. È membro del comitato di dottorato in Scienze Ambientali dell’Università di Siena.
